Canelo Alvarez vs Christian Mbilli LIVE: Start time, fight updates and results plus Jaime Munguia vs Nikita Zon

Jaime Munguia def. Nikita Zon via unanimous decision (116-112, 117-111, 117-111)

Okay, the Mexican retains his WBA super-middleweight title!

Now it’s over to his compatriot Canelo to take the WBC belt from Mbilli…

Munguia is surely three minutes from retaining his WBA belt.

He launches an uppercut towards the belt line of Zon, then chases after him with straight shots.

Zon looks a bit concerned, but as usual, he keeps throwing anyway.

Zon misses with a big left hook attempt and stumbles to the ropes.

Munguia capitalises by swarming him. Good output by Munguia.

Back out in the open, Zon lands well, but he walks onto a short straight next.

Jab and hook land for Zon in the corner now. The bell sounds!

Into the championship rounds. Zon needs to finish strong to salvage this, I’d say, after his decent work early on.

He’s marked up around his right eye, as well as the left cheek.

Munguia lunges after Zon but can’t find the mark. Clubbing left hook by Zon.

Another left hook by the Russian, but there’s not much on it. He burrows a left hook into the body, now a right. Better.

Munguia fires back to the body then head. Zon walks onto a jab and his feet buckle under him, but he keeps throwing.

Yet again Munguia is down from a push. Zon has really tried to make it ugly in this round.

Munguia lands a hard body shot, and Zon retreats slowly. Both men miss with a few attempted head shots.

Zon with a better spell now, though he’s tagged with a jab and is breathing with his mouth open. Another jab by Munguia and a clean right hook!

Now the super-middleweights grapple until the referee separates them.

Zon gets through with a cross, an uppercut, and another cross. Munguia fires back.

This one is finely poised heading into the final straight, although Munguia is likely slightly ahead.

Zon might have recovered some energy; he comes forward early in this round, looking to lead the action. He gets through with a southpaw cross.

A well-timed counter right hook by Munguia thumps Zon’s guard and has him stumbling a little.

Now Zon walks onto a sharp cross. He takes it well, though, and corners Munguia before letting his hands go.

Now an overhand right by Munguia tests the guard of Zon. Munguia bounces around, aiming to stay light on his feet.

Zon is warned for leading with his head, which he seemed to do intentionally; Munguia shoves him away.

Munguia does the better work throughout round seven. Zon looks tired, and as such, he’s less mobile and more vulnerable.

That said, he catches Munguia on the end of a long hook, before the Mexican throws a couple of illegal shots to the back of the head in a clinch.

Munguia somewhat close to a finish in round five… Zon very close in round six, then Munguia almost turning the tide…

Six more rounds to go, max!

Credit to Zon, he looks for a positive response, letting his hands go early on. All the while, Munguia comes forward with a high guard.

Lovely counter rear uppercut by Zon, and suddenly Munguia is stumbling backwards??!! Two miunutes to go!!

Zon is swarming Munguia, but he won’t go down yet…

Now Munguia drops to his knees, BUT it’s from an illegal shot – no knockdown.

OH!!!! Huge right hooks by Zon, and the ref is considering stepping in… A left now… but Munguia is throwing back intermittently…

An uppercut gets through for Zon, but Munguia comes back like a zombie and lands a hook and a one-two! MASSIVE punches.

Again Munguia drops, but it’s from a shove.

Munguia with brilliant output now, a lengthy combination.

The bell sounds. Incredible round.

Lots of feinting from both guys, with Munguia backed up against the ropes. Slick jab by the Mexican after he gets into the open.

Now a long uppercut to the body. Zon comes forward in a Philly shell, almost begging Munguia to throw, to allow a counter.

Bad bruising on the left cheek of Zon, who lands a swift counter jab. Still, it’s Munguia pressing forward now.

Oh!! And it pays off, he wobbles Zon with a long right hook and follows up with a huge cross!

It’s late in the round, though, and Zon just makes it to the bell – but only after eating a piston pair of straight shots at the last moment…
